Food labeling is becoming increasingly important in the UAE. Nutri-Mark is a front-of-pack nutrition labeling system that grades products from A (healthiest) to E. But is Nutri-Mark mandatory in Dubai?
Current Status: Nutri-Mark in Dubai
At present, Nutri-Mark is not mandatory in Dubai. The scheme was launched by Abu Dhabi authorities, specifically the Abu Dhabi Quality & Conformity Council (ADQCC). The rollout has been postponed to Q4 2025 in Abu Dhabi to allow businesses more time to adjust.
Dubai continues to operate under existing UAE federal labeling laws and Dubai Municipality's Food Code—but Nutri-Mark is not part of Dubai's regulations yet.
Why Nutri-Mark Matters
Nutri-Mark is designed to:
- Simplify nutrition information with color coding and A–E grades
- Encourage healthier consumer choices
- Support government health strategies to combat obesity and diabetes
Future Expansion: Will Nutri-Mark Cover Other Emirates?
- The program is legally binding in Abu Dhabi once the Q4 2025 deadline arrives
- Announcements describe Nutri-Mark as supporting healthier lifestyles "in Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE"
- Neither Dubai Municipality nor MOIAT has announced requirements outside Abu Dhabi yet
Practical Guidance for Food Businesses
Conclusion
Nutri-Mark is not yet mandatory in Dubai. However, businesses should expect future expansion and stay alert for updates that may reshape UAE food regulation.
